How to Renew Motorcycle Registration in LTO

For first timers, it is a common perception that to renew motorcycle registration in the Land Transportation Office (LTO) of the Philippines could be bothersome or difficult to achieve. However, if you can gather relevant information and understand the entire process of the motorcycle registration renewal, it is actually very doable.

It is very important to renew the registration of your motorcycle in LTO. Practically, if you are caught driving an unregistered motor vehicle (a car or a motorcycle), the penalty charge is much expensive than the low-cost registration fee.

There are documents needed to be prepared and things you need to know before you go the LTO District in your area. You must know the registration schedule of your motorcycle, the requirements and the step by step guide of the process.

When to Renew Your Motorcycle Registration

Keep in mind that the renewal of motorcycle registration is annual or every year. Although, if you bought your 200CC and up brand new motorcycle, the first time registration could extend up to 3 years. But for its renewal, it is every year. For this guide, let us assume that you only registered for 1 year and you need to renew your registration.

So how can you know when it’s already time to renew your motorcycle registration? The answer can be found in your motorcycle plate number. The digits in your plate number determines what month and what week of the month is the deadline of your registration renewal.

The last digit of your plate number is the month where you need to renew your registration. While the second to the last digit signifies the week of the month.

Say for example, your plate number is ABC 123. The last digit is 3 (March) and the second to the last digit is 2 (belongs to 1st – 7th day or the first week). How Much is the Renewal Fee

Although according to the LTO Website, for motorcycles, it is just ₱240 – ₱300. But the renewal fee normally costs about ₱300 – ₱700.

Motorcycle Renewal of Registration Requirements

Here are the documents you need to prepare before you process your renewal to the LTO District Office.

• Certificate of Registration (CR)
• Official Receipt (OR) of motorcycle registration
• Compulsory Third-Party Liability (CTPL) Insurance
• Certificate of Emission Compliance (CEC)
• Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN)

How to Renew Motorcycle Registration

1. Go to the LTO District Office where you want to renew your registration. Bring the requirements and your motorcycle. Don’t forget to wear proper attire.
2. Proceed to the LTO Transaction Counter and politely tell your intention that you want to renew your motorcycle registration. Then submit your documents and wait for a feedback.
3. There will be an actual inspection of your motorcycle with duly accomplished Motor Vehicle Inspection Report Form. This is where your headlight, signal lights, breaks and all functional parts of your motorcycle are being checked.
4. When it’s done, you’ll be asked to proceed to the Cashier to pay for the Registration Renewal Fee and/or other necessary fees. Then, get your Official Receipt (OR).
5. Finally, go to the Releasing Counter to get your Certificate of Registration (CR).

The Certificate of Registration (CR) and Official Receipt of Payment (OR) are the most important documents you should always carry when you are driving your motorcycle on public roads. Commonly, motorists keep it in the motorcycle u-box.
